Sketchbook Post 25

Om Nama Shivaya!

I think it speaks for itself... but beyond that it was a sketch for a recent series I did on the streets of Philadelphia, called "Divine Feminine". I will be posting a full write-up on the project as soon as we move out to Colorado. There has been a bunch of new exciting work that we are finishing up right before our move, so watch out for that!

Sketchbook Post 24

Om Nama Shivaya!

This is another sketch from my non-sketchbook sketchbook. I drew it while in Chicago about a week ago. Walking around Chicago was amazing; the architecture, the air and the fine-ass people. The human species is aesthetically thriving in Chicago. So this sketch is influenced not only from my teenage sexual frustration but from the surrounding environment of that day... well... sort of.

Sketchbook Post 21

Om Nama Shivaya!

This is a sketch I did, inspired by tiny dancers... I grew up going to my sister's dance recitals and I have a soft spot for women who dance, it's really hot. Meredith, grew up in gymnastics but she has a lot of the same qualities as a dancer, which is very attractive... to me anyways.

Tangent: On Religion

Om Nama Shivaya!!

Religion... Oh Religion... Oh sweet Religion! For a while now I’ve been wanting to write something on Religion but maybe I was apprehensive... and maybe for a good reason. Religion seems to be the dirty little secret in the closet... It’s probably the same feeling that came along with being a homosexual in the 80’s and 90’s.

Religion is a big part of everyone’s lives, even Atheists, yet it seems like we can only talk about it if we’re debating, preaching, or trying to compare our Religion to someone else’s Religion. Only in the deeper moments of a conversation when we’re completely open, do we express how we truly feel about Religion. It is the dirty, dirty, little secret in the closet because people are in fear that if they talk about their Religion then they will be perceived as one of the above mentioned, ‘debater’, ‘preacher’ or ‘comparer’ and most people don’t want to be seen this way, they just want to party. Unless your a fanatic... If your a fanatic, not only do you wear your religion on your sleeve, you might as well wear a big red blinking hat that reads... wait for it... FANATIC!

So... where does that leave this tangent, this conversation, because it seems like it should be a conversation. It seems like it should be a never ending conversation that we, yes you and I, we should be having. Religion is a huge part of everyone’s life whether you consider yourself “religious” or not. Religion is thought to feed the hungry and it seems to give people hope. When something goes terribly wrong in the world a lot of people find solace in Religion. Religion can help cultivate peace but at the same time create so much war. Religion helps athletes score touch-downs and it helps singers hit those high notes. And Religion funds Government. So don’t you think we should be having a conversation about this? Right now? Like... ah... yesterday?

Let’s have a Religious conversation.

To me, the very concept of Religion... is slavery.

There is Truth, the information, the essence. Esoteric, exoteric, it doesn’t matter, just pure information, pure being. Then somewhere along the infinity line Truth got separated from itself; the Ancient Mystery Schools were born and Philosophy was born. The information went from all encompassing to esoteric, it went underground. The only way to get to the truth was that one had to become an initiate for truth. You rose up through the ranks, guided by ascended truth masters and they helped guide you back to the truth. Then through the rise of the ego, these ascended truth masters used this esoteric information to manipulate you, the initiate, into forgetting the truth. Their misguided hoarding of the truth allowed them to manipulate you into slavery. Not physical slavery either... although there was some of this, this was psychological and spiritual slavery. The ascended truth masters not only developed a method to manipulate a select few, they simultaneously uncovered a way to manipulate everyone, while remaining in their position of power. For the truth masters it was easier to manipulate people when the mainstream of people didn’t even know the truth existed. These truth masters, having fell into the darkness, became the architects of civilization. Through this manipulation, the truth could not only be selfishly protected, it could be used by the architects of civilization to forever mislead the masses. These shadowy characters not only got us to accept this form of slavery but they tricked us into thinking that we needed it to survive. That without this slavery we would be lost in the world and the world is too chaotic for us to handle on our own... right?! We, the masses, would eventually beg for this slavery in fear... and this slavery is called... Religion.

Now, before we go rounding up the lynch mob, with our missing teeth and rusty pitch forks, to go find these shadowy sons of bitches, we should realize that there really is no villain. The only villain that exists is our own ego. And when I say ego, I don’t necessarily mean someone who has a huge ego, we all know those people. I mean ego as the shadow self, that entity within each of us that clings and attaches itself to definitions, roles, rules, regulations, permanence and that sort of thing. The ego is the part of us that is afraid. The Ego is almost the personification of fear itself. So don’t go looking for the enemy if you’re not going to look within yourself first. The ego is something that the Authorities of Religion are too afraid to talk about so they make it into a shadowy devil-type character that possesses you to do evil shit. Sounds like ego-based propaganda to me?

Fear. I want you to ask yourself one question. How much of what you do throughout your day to day is driven by fear? Sit down, take a few deep breaths and think about this... really think about it. Our parents manipulate us with fear. Our teachers manipulate us with fear. Our coaches and mentors manipulate us with fear. Our politicians manipulate us with fear. Media pundits manipulate us with fear. And you can sure as shit bet that the authorities of whatever Religion, manipulate the people that they look over, with fear. We all respond to fear but when someone is telling us something in a calm and peaceful tone... we often view them as a “whack-job” and they “are probably on some sort of drug”... right?! Now when we start to come out of this fear-induced coma, the truth becomes a little less fuzzy. Things start happening in our lives that we never thought could happen and we start to take responsibility for our lives. We don’t need the smooth-talking preachers and the yogi under the tree. What we needed, the whole time, was to take off the fear goggles that we inherited from previous generations and start to Live!

The information in Religion bears the fruit of the truth but it is not the tree itself. It is not the soil, the seed, the roots, the trunk, the branches, the leaves... it is only the fruit. It’s not the Sun, the Air, the Earth, it is only the Fire. The fruit tastes good and it slightly resembles some truth but it is not the whole thing. The fruit is only a beautiful, delicious bi-product of the seed, the truth. The fruit can lead you back to the seed but one has to become conscious that the seed even exists and then accept the awesomeness of the seed. If you get caught up in the deliciousness of the fruit and how your fruit compares to others than you are missing out on so much more.. this being the truth.

In Buddhism, which seems more like a philosophy then a misguided band of slaves but has its share of dogma, the practitioners take refuge in the Three Jewels; The Buddha, The Dharma, and The Sangha. It compares in Christianity to; The Messiah(Jesus), The Bible, The Church. Or the same can be seen in Islam; The Messiah(Muhammad), The Quran, The Mosque. Take Judaism even; The Word(God), The Torah, The Temple. So if we look at the Three Jewels that seem to echo throughout all Religions, each having their different cultural name and cultural context, if we look at them and contemplate their meaning we see the deeper truth. We don’t have to enslave ourselves with all these terms anymore. We don’t have to practice any one Religion, we can free ourselves and practice them all or not even practice at all. All we have to do is take refuge in the Three Jewels of Truth. One, we are all Buddhas and we are all Messiahs, we are One. Two, there is information everywhere that will point us to who we truly are. And Three, the community will be there as soon as we all develop this realization. The Three Jewels: Self, Information, Community.

We can see this truth when we look at any form of information and how we respond to this information, the microcosm and the macrocosm. How does it relate to us, our “self”, how does it relate to itself as the information, and lastly how does this relate to everyone at large, the community. This whole time Christians were practicing Buddhism and vice versa and they didn’t even know it. Muslims, Christians, Jews and Buddhists can all hold hands and rejoice because they are all talking about the SAME thing... just in different languages and different cultural contexts. Sure there are subtle differences, like reincarnation and the skin color of the messiah but these differences are really trivial. There are pacifists, moderates and fanatics in all Religions... but what all these people have in common, if they recognize participation in any Religion, is they are all slaves and I say this boldly but with all the compassion in the universe.

Religion doesn’t need to become more inclusive or find the bridges to other Religions. All it has to do is be and it will fade away. Religious leaders don’t have to find new ways to manipulate the masses. All it has to do is be and it will fade way. Religion doesn’t have to become interdisciplinary or clever, it doesn’t even have to start a conversation amongst itself, just be and fade away. I mean do we really care if a Priest, a Rabbi, an Ulema, and a Guru can sit in a room and have a conversation, to discuss how bone-headed they have been? How their religious garbs are just ways to separate themselves from everyone else? How their beliefs are just walls that have been constructed by the ego? Seriously! Just be... and fade away already.

I approach information as a Mystic. The term Mystic is only rigid in its clinical definition but in practice there is no enslavement. Mystics are Evolutionaries and Evolutionaries are Mystics. We approach life in trying to connect directly to God, to the Source, the Higher Self, to everyone, to everything and to you. Mystics are not a sub-group or community outside of the larger community. We are not a group of wild-eyed, frizzy-haired, tattooed, dope-smoking hippies who only eat granola. We don’t wear cloaks in the night and scurry through the trees like witches looking for an ingredient for our latest magical potion... well, most of us don’t. We are merely people who approach spirituality from the self, through direct experience. Why trust what you read in a book or trust what anyone has to say? Because it’s published or because it is said with authority? Or Confidence? I say now, You Are God... I say it with all the confidence and with all the conviction in the world... but do you believe me? You shouldn’t... you should experience it for yourself. That is the Mystic way of life. Mysticism is not an occult collection of individuals or even a pre-defined way of life. Mysticism is to realize the communion with your self, your environment and the community of earth. Do not get lost in the definition or term Mystic. If you call yourself a Mystic and let it enslave you in the same way calling yourself a Christian , Muslim, Jew or Buddhist did, then you are truly missing the point. The object is not to enslave yourself with one religion versus the other. Just let all of them go, let them fall. We don’t need these chains anymore. Just experience God for what it is not what it’s called.

If you want to practice a method or a tradition, that is fine but be careful that it doesn’t trap you into a belief structure. Method and tradition can lead us to where we need to be, aware and present... but realize that it is not an end itself and it should never, ever, be forced on anyone else. If you have a method for discovery, by all means share it, God knows the world needs it, but you don’t need to call it anything... don’t define it beyond practical application. We don’t need more people following people. We need people waking up to their enslavement and then subsequently setting themselves free. True Liberation. True Understanding. True Peace and Compassion. True Knowledge or Gnosis. And if your method works for you that is great but don’t forget that you are an individual who responds to it’s environment as an individual, it may not work for everyone.

I say now that Religion is Slavery. If you call yourself a Christian then it seems like you are a slave. If you call yourself a Muslim then it seems like you are a slave. If you call yourself a Jew, Buddhist, Hindi, whatever, then call yourself a slave. Stop using other people or definitions as your medium to God and start experiencing God first hand. Find the God in you, embrace that light and shine it where ever you can without definition.

Through all the years of religious studies, studying the religion of the Gods, from the Mystery Schools of Egypt to the Secret Societies of the Money Changers, there is an underlying essence. A truth that runs through all of this information. But there is no way to read it. There is no way to understand it intellectually. There is no reciting it because it resonates on a frequency too subtle for most ears to hear. But if you listen closely. If you slow things down a bit. And you start to unlock all the bullshit shackles you have put on yourself over the years... you will begin to hear it. You will begin to see it... touch it... taste it... and smell it. You will transcend all objective faculties and you will become it. Then you will know the Truth and anything else will seem like slavery... like Religion.

T Shirt Post 1

Om Nama Shivaya!

This T Shirt design was the first T shirt design I've done since I was roughly 17. I got a job in high school as a screenprinting artist. I did a lot of tracing, pen and ink, and digital layout. I got pretty burnt on it after a while and I was going off to college so I never looked back. Now, I'm in a little different of a place and I've faced my jadedness and it no longer serves me... upgrade! This design was the first design that I did for my friends band The Revere. I just finished up the first album artwork and I completed 4 different T Shirt Designs... I will be posting them in future posts. This T Shirt is "The Ghost" and she is on her way to The Great Ball to shake what limbo gave her. I don't know if this design will actually get made but I love the design and it would make a cool-ass T Shirt. Watch out for The Revere. Thanks.

Written Word: "The Machine"

Om Nama Shivaya!

The Machine

Entering a Wawa in Philadelphia I passed a pyramid of tasty cakes on my way to the sandwich station. There’s two women behind the counter. I don’t talk to them. I don’t make eye contact. I don’t even say “hello.” I pass by the workers on my way to the machine. The machine takes all forms, today it was a touch screen that begged be to touched.

“What do you want?” the machine asks. I navigate through menus and press all sorts of buttons until the submarine sandwich I want is ready for submission. “Hit Done,” the machine tells me, so I do. The machine prints out a piece of paper. You’re number “27.” Thanks machine. I’ve always wanted to be a number.

The machine prints a piece of paper for the workers behind the counter as well. It’s my order for a sub. I take my piece of paper to another counter and present it to a clerk. He tells me the total, so I open my wallet and pull out a plastic card. I swipe the card through another machine and sign my name on more paper. As I walk away the clerk says, “You’ll need that.” I turn back to see what I need. It’s my piece of paper from the first machine. Ah yes, I almost forgot the paper with my number.

I walk back to the deli counter and hand one of the women my paper. She checks it, then hands me my submarine sandwich.

“Thanks,” she says.

“No, thank you,” I reply

I wonder what she’s like. I wonder what everyone’s like. I guess I won’t find out today. For today, I couldn’t have a sandwich until I told the machine what I wanted. The machine said thanks by assigning me a number. Then the machine told the worker how to do her job.

I miss humanity. I miss conversation. I don’t seem to get either from these damn machines.

Hundredth Monkey Effect Evolutionaries

Om Nama Shivaya!

The Hundredth Monkey Effect

Eric Duffy.

Fellow Evolutionary and friend, he is a new addition to the Hundredth Monkey Effect. Eric offers a completely new dynamic to the Hundredth by focusing most of his creative energy towards the art of the Written Word. Eric will be contributing his Written Word to the Hundredth Monkey Effect. We are anticipating that his unique vision and innate aptitude for story telling will be a great addition to the evolution of consciousness. His contributions will also help develop the inclusiveness of the Hundredth Monkey Effect. The Evolutionary Revolution is here and we should all start accepting that fact. The old paradigms of survival are crumbling but we shouldn't freak out and start panicking. There is real hope and truth and not in a public relations slogan kind-0f-way. To see and experience this hope might take a leap in consciousness, in awareness, then we can take responsibility for ourselves. Through this, we can start helping other people find the truth within themselves and join the Revolution of Consciousness. We are not what we thought we were and when we recognize our divinity for what it is, a true realization can occur. Liberation through Conscious Evolution.

I welcome Eric to the Hundredth Monkey Effect and I look forward to his Written Word.

Tattoo Design Post 9

Om Nama Shivaya!

I'm in an exceptionally weird mood today... a little bit of childhood anger, some excitement about upcoming events and there's just a serious amount of creative energy flowing through me but I feel like I just want to destroy some things... not physically just psychological and spiritual barriers that people put up a lot of the time. I just want to smash them with a huge "spiritual" sledge hammer and just tell them to WAKE UP!!! Besides that, here's a tattoo design I did for a completely new client, Carly. I did some tweeks to this drawing to make it fit more of what Carly was thinking but I really liked this drawing and I think the tattoo is going to be the sickness... It's a little bit more simple than what I'm used to doing but I'm jazzed on it because we will get it done in one sitting and Carly will have a bang'n tattoo.

Peace From the Hood.
