Tattoo Post 5

Om Nama Shivaya!

This is a tattoo I just completed on my friend Bernie. He sat for about five hours for this, we tattooed until three in the morning. This was a fun trip for Bernie; he got his chest tattooed with these flowers and a severed moose head on his ribs. Two days of brutal tattooing. These flowers are a bit more "traditional" then how I normally draw and tattoo flowers. I really like this style it's definitely more line driven and I really appreciate quality line work. The color choices were Bernie's and I think they go well on his chest. Thanks for coming down Bernie!

Fine Art Post 7: APW "Sketch It Out"

Om Nama Shivaya!

These are five sketches, 8.5" x 11", graphite on watercolor paper. They are for the up and coming APW "Sketch It Out" show in Long Island City, NYC. I was really psyched with the out come of this project... I drew them up in about two days and I had a loose concept for the connection of the five images. I'm not going to go too much into them, I think they speak for themselves for the most part, but I will say that this is a preview of a series coming up for the Hundredth Monkey Effect. I've been taking my time with this new color series, but I think it is going to be well worth the weight. Check out this show and check out my new uploads in the "Art" section of my blog and website.

Tattoo Post 4

Om Nama Shivaya!

Wicked Psyched... ya heard!! I just finished this tattoo about an hour ago. I was super jazzed on the completion of this tattoo so I had to post it, asap, hence the post. But this tattoo finished up a half-sleeve, it is on the inner arm. I had serious fun drawing the dragonfly, having never drawn a dragonfly before but I had even more fun actually tattooing it... I couldn't be more psyched about the colors. Dan is a trooper, he sat for three hours today... but he is a champion of the ink, having is whole back tattooed and a full lower leg sleeve, as well as having two upper-arm half sleeves. We're going to do a couple touch-up/detail sessions and then I will be posting new updated pictures of all of his tattoos. I'm going to get my homies Pat and Chris to take some Ill photos, they are both phototonic, especially when their on the ill chronic... what what!

Tattoo Post 3

Om Nama Shivaya!

This tattoo session was completed yesterday and was about a three hour session. Nina was a trooper, this was her first tattoo and she sat through it like a champ. The tattoo is located on her inner ankle and I had a lot of fun with this project. I'm really drawn to lotus flowers and Nina allowed me to redefine a "flower" tattoo. Thanks Nina!

Tattoo Post 2

Om Nama Shivaya!

This is a new tattoo I just finished last night. The tattoo took one sitting and the brave young soul who endured it, Rebecca, sat for FIVE hours to finish it. The tattoo is located on her upper thigh/pelvis region. The concept for the tattoo is really interesting, it includes The Shema, The Seven Liberal Arts, God, Life, Nature and a little numerical symbolism, see if you can find it. Rebecca approached me with this idea a few months ago, while learning abroad in Spain, and I was really happy to be able to complete it before I move out to Colorado. This project was a lot of fun.

It is not only a new direction in my tattoo work but in my personal work as well. I have been working a bunch lately with roots, seeds, growth, flowers, plants, cosmic consciousness... you know... the basics. So yeah, I'm really stoked about this tattoo, great sitting, great client, everything went smoothly. I might do a touch up/detail session to kind of add a bit more detail into it, maybe in the future... but for now I'm psyched. And watch out for more tattoo posts! I've just finished a handful of "one sitting" tattoos I will be posting them here and on my portfolio.

Tattoo Design Post 6

Om Nama Shivaya!

This is a new tattoo design for a new tattoo client as well. Rebecca approached me with this concept for a tattoo a few months ago and I wasn't sure how to approach it at first. Just when she thought that because I was moving away, that she probably wouldn't be getting a tattoo, I came up with this design and now were both stoked on this awesome tattoo project.

Tattoo Design Post 5

Om Nama Shivaya!

This is a new design I did for a new client, her name is Nina. She will be getting tattooed on her inner ankle/foot area. This is obviously just a pencil drawing, the tattoo will have loads of insanely amazing colors. I like to sketch out my design in pencil, maybe work out some of the shading and make it more three dimensional but I mostly like to color it while tattooing. I like it best when I color tattoos from a more organic, natural flow and not from a pre-determined place. This process works really well for me. I dig this tattoo design and I'm excited because I feel a deep connection to the subject matter. A lot of my new work has taken on this type of organic, natural, cosmic feel which is kind of a reflection of my current state of being.

Tattoo Design Post 4

Om Nama Shivaya!

This drawing is a tattoo design I drew up for my friend Dan. Dan has well over a hundred hours of tattoos done by me. This particular design will be on the inside of his left arm, finishing two half sleeves that I have been working simultaneously. After this we will have a couple, fine-tuning sessions, and then my main-man Dan will be finished, for at least a while... according to him... I personally think he'll be back.

News: 3/22/2009

Hello Everyone!

Today was my Birthday. It really seemed like any other day. Mellow, relaxed and maybe just the best day I have had. I woke up and took a shower. I had a bit of a sneezing day, I'm going on my third day a of a very mild cold, it's weird because it's not that bad it's just I'm a little stuffed up and a bit heady. I tattooed my friend for four or so hours. Meredith made us amazing Raw Chinese Classics: Raw General Tso's Chicken(not actual chicken), Raw Vegetable Dumplings, Raw Summer Rolls, Raw Miso Soup, Raw Peanut Noodles, and Raw Chocolate Fortune Cookies. Amazing!!! And then we watched a documentary on Canabis. Pretty amazing day. Now I'm updating my Blog.

So the real reason I was reporting on some March news, was, for those of you who don't know: my lovely wife, her brother and mutual friend Chris and I will be moving to Boulder, Colorado for June 1st. But don't view Chris as the tag-along brother, he's a really cool Cat and we are all going to be going in on a joint creative adventure while living in the best place on Earth. He's not mooching off us or anything... he's chill! Really! ... The Rocky Mountains!!! It's not that we don't like Philadelphia or all the amazing friends we've made... We just want a change of environment and new soil, to plant new seeds. We had been out to Boulder, Colorado previously and actually got married there. And while we were out there it just seemed like a super awesome place with, really positive, amazing people. It was a tid-bit caucasian and it little on the "Yuppie"-side but to be honest I sometimes see myself as a tiny bit Hippie and a tiny bit Yuppie so that makes me a half bit Yippie and the other half is just pure energy... pure transcendental light... Just Kidding... not really. But yeah, I think it will be a great move for us and I plan on pursuing what I've been doing in Philadelphia, Mural, illustration, Fine Arts and Tattoos. I might try and learn how to grow my own food and such as well. I have completed one of the paintings for my upcoming, Third, installment of the Hundredth Monkey Effect. The Series will be titled "Bodhisattva", so look out for that! I will also be updating my portfolio with new tattoo design drawings, check out the link above titled "Art". I think my work may be better received in the West, maybe not... but I am seeing that a change in environment will definitely impact my work and I am greatly looking forward to this!!!

If you have any unfinished tattoo work or would just like to visit us before we go out, just hit me on my email or blow up my celly and we will chill like straight villains(villains that are made out of pure transcendental light!) Anyways... I'm in an awesome mood right now so if this news update seemed a bit off or on?... it might have been... or not... trippy man?

Tattoo Design Post 3

Om Nama Shivaya!

This is another tattoo design I did for my friend Bernie. It's of a severed moose head flying through the air with a banner that reads: "Dear John". There's a really interesting story behind this one, I'll have to ask Bernie if I can update this blog later with the full explanation, to preserve the respect for a lost friend. Again, I had a lot of fun drawing this one. The tattoo projects I have been getting lately have been really awesome and I am super grateful to all the people who have gotten tattooed thus far. It is truly an honor to get to tattoo some pretty interesting designs on people who I find most often being my friends and really interesting as well. Thanks a bunch!

Tattoo Design Post 2

Om Nama Shivaya!

Here is a a tattoo design I did for my friend Bernie. They are going to be tattooed on the side of his chest to fit in with some existing tattoos he already has. They are traditional-style roses, which is a difference from my normal design style, but they were really fun to draw and I'm looking forward to tattooing them.

Illustration Post 3

Om Nama Shivaya!

This is an illustration I did for my friends' band, The Revere. They are about to release their debut album, The Great City, at the end of the summer. I am currently working on their album cover/sleeve work and I am really excited to be apart of this project. I think their music is evolutionary, mixing an eclectic arrangement of styles, genres, and sounds. Their music offers a wealth of visuals, inspiration and I am a testament to the transformative nature of the musical journey that is: The Great City.

This illustration has no specific purpose, I just painted it while listening the first few tracks that they dropped me, I wanted to get a feel for the direction I would take in the illustrations. The first image is the original painting and the second image is lighting effects/touch-ups I did in photoshop. The band will be selling limited edition prints of the image at their upcoming shows, so look out for them. You can hear a taste of what's to come @: THE REVERE.

Fine Art Post 6

Om Eim Saraswatyei Swaha!

This is a self-portrait I recently did. It's weird because when I started I was 50 lbs. heavier than when I finished it. I added some of the inner contour-type lines on the inside of the face to symbolize my weight loss and transformation. This was the first self portrait I have done in a while and I am really into this style of portrait.

Fine Art Post 5

Om Eim Saraswatyei Swaha!

This is a portrait of my younger self. Oh when times were a lot more simple... Not really, I think we often say this to ourselves because it may be comforting for some to reside in the past. My childhood was not that simple, it wasn't all bad but it definitely wasn't simple. I painted this portrait to heal some of my childhood... accept it and move on and not dwell in the past. It has help in my healing process and it definitely broke down some blockages that were springing up like little demons in the night.

This is a portrait of my lovely wife Meredith and our dog, Bug. Meredith thinks she looks a little wigged-out in it but I think it's just one of the many faces that she makes... but maybe I could do better at capturing her lovely essence, there's always next time!

Fine Art Post 2

Om Nama Shivaya!

Hello Everyone! It's been a few since my last post... this past week has been a crazy transformative week... I love it!!! When one door closes I feel like infinite amount of doors open. In fact I don't want to walk through any doors anymore. I want to transcend the door to door experience and just be. Can't I just be?

Enough with the existentialism, here's a new portrait, well, it's a newER portrait and it's of my bro-in-law Chris. He's pretty chill. This portrait was done at a time before he went through a transformation in his own life and I felt like it was fitting to post right now in this time of serious, amazing, awe-inspiring transformation. May you find this transformation in your own life. So Mote It Be!

Fine Art Post 1

Om Nama Shivaya!

After painting the second series of the Hundredth Monkey Effect, I kind of fell in love with ink wash/watercolor with asian brushes. I subsequently watched a documentary on Hunter S. Thompson and Gonzo and I was really inspired by Ralph Steadman. There is a serious sense of liberation when painting ink splatters and wash and dripping and all of that.

I started painting portraits of people I know and this post and future posts of this sort are part of a fine art series of portraits that I am continuously working on. I hope you like them and if you would like a portrait done of you, all I need is a picture and I am available and pretty affordable, so contact me! Oh yeah, this portrait is of my friend Dave, he's awesome and had an awesome beard. It was the first one I did. I also paint the "third eye" design on pretty much every portrait, character or figure that I do... symbolizing transformation and awakening. We are all enlightened it's just a matter of accepting it. Much Love.

Sketchbook Post 15

Om Nama Shivaya!

I know that it's only popular, at this time, amongst "conservatives", to shine Obama in a not so positive light... and I don't really find myself adhering to any specific political ideology. I just don't like when people blindly follow a "leader". To blindly follow any leader, besides yourself, is false idol worship and what does the really do for anyone? Whether it be a Political Leader, a Religious Leader, a Spiritual Leader, there is no true leader, guru, master, shaman, etc. besides the one that resides with you, that IS you. Some may take offense to this, because of it's blaphemous nature, and some would rather I say it in a different way, but I think we live in a critical time in our Evolution where sometimes you have to be cruel to be truly kind.

P.s. This is a portrait drawn from an actual picture. I hope I don't get sued over it?
